Nelson Tyrone is a personal lawyer who represents the families of children injured during birth. He is also: the son of a doctor, the grandson of doctors, nurses and judges, the husband to a brilliant and kind architect (Leslie) and the father of two whip-smart daughters (Munday and McGowan). His family is everything to him.
Nelson has a passion for helping people. This is something he has done his entire adult life (and his entire life as a lawyer). He feels deeply for the children he represents and their moms, dads, aunts, uncles, grandparents, brothers, sisters and other loved ones. Nelson has two daughters (McGowan and Munday). He and his wife Leslie lost their third daughter, Katharine, due to complications during Leslie’s pregnancy. He has been told he is a creative, compassionate lawyer. He hopes to be worthy to the task of representing the families and kids he and his team represent.
Nelson devotes a great deal of his time to charity and to helping others. Primarily he supports organizations that support his kids (organizations that serve children with CP, Developmental Delays, Epilepsy) and their families. He does this with his, and his firms’ time, and financially through “Tyrone’s Tykes”, a 501(c)(3) that is funded with 5% of every dollar Tyrone Law Firm makes and which donates 100% of those monies to charities that support special needs kids.
Since 2012, Nelson has been recognized every year by Super Lawyers, an organization that recognizes the top lawyers in the country. Only 5 percent of attorneys in Georgia are selected to be “Super Lawyers” based on recommendations from fellow attorneys.
Nelson is a member of the American Association of Justice Birth Injury section and is a regular speaker and teacher at seminars across the country. Nelson spends about twenty (20) days a year donating his time to teach other public-interest lawyers as a staff member at Gerry Spence’s Trial Lawyers College in Dubois, Wyoming. He also has a passion for helping people suffering homelessness with a “hand up”. He serves on the board of Covenant Community, a not-for-profit transitional recovery center for homeless addicts and alcoholics, and serves as All Saints pro-bono counsel for the resident’s legal needs. He and his daughter Munday serve at soup kitchens every month.
Nelson has completed one Marathon and completed several Ironman triathlons. He runs, bikes, boxes, rides motorcycles, practices guitar, and competes in “adventure” races in his spare time. He is a graduate of Episcopal High School, the University of Virginia, and the University of Georgia, School of Law. He and his wife Leslie live in the Brookwood Hills area of Atlanta with their daughters, McGowan and Munday, and their dogs, Finch and Emily. He aspires to be someone who is constantly working on becoming a better human – and someone who helps people every day.
